Terms of Use

These terms apply to the Hoch Hunt app (Android, Windows and web) and hochhunt.com. By using them you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Hoch Hunt.
1. Maps, land and regulations
- Land boundaries, PLOTS tracts, hunting units, lake data, regulations and other information come from public sources such as the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, the ND GIS Hub, USGS, USDA and the National Weather Service. This data can be out of date, incomplete or wrong, and GPS positions can be off.
- Showing land in the app does not mean you may enter it. Posted land, private land and closures must be respected. The official sources and the landowner have the final say.
- Hoch Hunt is not affiliated with or endorsed by the State of North Dakota or any agency.
2. The AI guide
"Ask" uses artificial intelligence to answer questions. Its answers can be wrong or out of date. Treat them as a starting point and check anything that matters, especially regulations, seasons and access.
3. Weather and safety
Weather, radar, ice and water information is provided for convenience only. Conditions change quickly. Use your own judgment and official warnings.
4. Your account
- You must be at least 13 to create an account. Keep your password private; you're responsible for activity on your account.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app or at hochhunt.com/delete-account.
5. What you post
- You own the reports, photos and other content you post. You give Hoch Hunt permission to store and display it in the app to the people you choose (everyone, or your friends) so the features work.
- Only post content you have the right to share. Don't post anything illegal, threatening, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or that invades someone's privacy, such as another person's location or personal information without their consent.
- Don't use Hoch Hunt to encourage trespassing, poaching or other game-law violations.
- You can report posts that break these rules. We may remove content or suspend accounts that break them.
6. Friends and live location
Live location sharing is off unless you turn it on, and it is visible only to friends you have accepted. Only share with people you trust. Don't use Hoch Hunt to track anyone without their knowledge.
6a. Meeting other hunters and anglers
The full app's check-ins ("room for one more"), questions and "looking for a buddy" posts help people connect. These features are part of the full (paid) app and are not in the free web version.
- We don't screen users. Hoch Hunt does not run background checks, verify identities, licenses, hunter-education status or experience, and does not supervise, arrange or take part in any meeting, hunt or fishing trip between users.
- Your choice, your risk. Deciding to contact, meet, hunt, fish, ride or boat with another user is entirely your own decision. Hunting, firearms, boating and being outdoors carry real risks, including serious injury or death. You voluntarily assume all risks of any meeting or activity with people you connect with through Hoch Hunt.
- Release. To the fullest extent allowed by law, you release Hoch Hunt and its owners from any claims, damages, injuries or losses arising from your contact or activities with other users, and you agree that any dispute with another user is between you and that user.
- Be smart. Meet at a public spot first, tell someone your plan, agree on safe zones of fire and firearm handling, follow all hunting, boating and trespass laws, and never share your live location with people you don't know.
6b. Landowner listings
- If you list land, you confirm that you own or manage it and have the right to offer the access you describe, that your information is accurate, and that you'll keep it up to date or pause it. You're responsible for your land, your rules and any arrangement you make with hunters.
- Hoch Hunt reviews listings to reduce misuse, but doesn't guarantee who anyone is. Hoch Hunt only displays listings; it is not a party to any access arrangement, lease or permission, and isn't responsible for anything that happens on listed land.
- Hunters must follow each landowner's rules, stay within the area described, leave gates as they found them, and follow all hunting and trespass laws. Permission can be withdrawn by the landowner at any time.
- A free account offered to landowners who open 40 or more acres lasts while the qualifying listing stays active and approved, and may be changed or ended by Hoch Hunt.
6c. Hazard pins and alerts
Hazard and trap pins are placed by users and may be wrong, missing or out of date, and GPS positions and alerts can be off by many feet or fail (for example with weak signal, a sleeping phone or battery saving). Never rely on the app to keep you safe from a hazard, and follow all trapping regulations for your sets.
7. Preview versions
Preview and test versions are provided to specific people for feedback. They may have bugs, may expire, and must not be shared, copied or redistributed without our permission.
8. Acceptable use
Don't copy, resell or scrape the app or its data, try to get around its limits or security, or interfere with the service or other users. Don't decompile, reverse engineer or disassemble the app, or copy its code, design, features or Hawk's behavior to build a competing product, except where the law allows it regardless of this term.
8a. Who owns what
Hoch Hunt, the Hoch Hunt name and hawk logo, Hawk, and the app's software, design, text, graphics and features are owned by Hoch Hunt and protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. Using the app gives you a personal, non-transferable right to use it under these terms; it doesn't give you ownership of any of it. Public map and government data shown in the app (for example ND Game and Fish, NDDOT, NOAA and OpenStreetMap data) belongs to its original sources and is credited in the app. What you post stays yours, as described in section 5.
9. No warranty
Hoch Hunt is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted service.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Hoch Hunt and its owners are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for losses arising from your use of the app. This includes citations, fines, trespass claims, injury, or lost or damaged property. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
11. Changes and ending the service
We may change features or these terms. If we make an important change, we'll update the date above and let you know in the app. We may stop offering Hoch Hunt, or suspend accounts that break these terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Dakota.
